Research Interests

James Roelofse has a special interest in paediatric sedation and the development of adult and paediatric sedation training programs. Sedation offers an important alternative for general anaesthesia for certain procedures, and has become an important treatment option for patients for various reasons. Training is however necessary. The efficacy and safety of drugs during paediatric sedation, and the side-effect profile after sedation at home are important research areas. He has also a special interest in the evaluation of parent satisfaction of the sedation process after paediatric sedation. In 2008 he was elected to the Committee responsible for writing the paediatric sedation guidelines for the Western Cape Government.
